Who is this Man? Suffering Son of God
Mark 15:33-41
Jesus’ death is THE provision for our relationship with God.
In this passage we see three effects of Jesus’ sacrificial death:
I. Creation _______________ it’s Sustainer’s suffering, 15:33.
A. An historical reference to the darkness…
1. Julius Africanus (221 AD) quoting Thallus (~52AD)
B. God’s promise about the darkness, Amos 8:9.
II. The Father _______________ His sin-bearing Son, 15:34-37.
A. “Why have you forsaken Me?” See Psalm 22:1
1. Galatians 3:13; 1 Peter 2:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21
B. A glimpse of Hell (see 2 Thessalonians 1:9).
III. The ________________ between God and humanity was torn away, 15:38-41.
A. The curtain veiled the people from the presence of God.
1. To approach God then… (see Leviticus 16)
2. To approach God now…
a. By Jesus’ blood, not that of animals (Heb. 9:12).
b. Eternal, not just annual redemption (Heb. 9:12).
c. All can come, not just the High Priest (Mk. 15:39-41).
d. Come with confidence, not fear (Heb. 10:19-22).
Conclusion: Jesus is THE provision for your sin. Are you trusting Him as your Savior?
