“Facebook is Making Us Miserable”

“Facebook is Making Us Miserable”

Wow, what a title!  Are we allowed to say that?   The article by this name that I read a few weeks ago (Dec. 9, 2011) was written by Daniel Gulati and published in the Harvard Business Review.  In it he outlines some of the ways Facebook is affecting people for the worse.

I Can’t Believe I Finished Another Book!

I Can’t Believe I Finished Another Book!

When I was in High School and College I did not like to read.  I’d rather have been outside doing something than reading a book for pleasure.  In fact, ‘reading’ and ‘pleasure’ were antonyms by my judgment!

The Christmas Gift

The Christmas Gift

I’ve really enjoyed studying the Bible for our Christmas series entitled  ’Gift Wrapped God.’  The mystery of God becoming flesh and all that means is really fascinating.

Christmas Tree Repentance :)

Yesterday in my sermon I shared an illustration about artificial vs. real Christmas trees.  The illustration really wasn’t about the benefits of one over the other, but about how people try to achieve ‘real’ life apart from Jesus by ‘decorating’ their life with all sorts of pursuits.

Ponderings on the Persecuted Church

On Sunday November 13, we took the time in our service to highlight and pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters across the world.  That evening we included a time of prayer for them during our all-church prayer night.  It definitely was a powerful and encouraging prayer service, as many people, including youth, came out [...]

“Random” Acts of Kindness

A book I’ve just finished

A book I’ve just finished

I’ve finished Rob Bell’s most recent book called Love Wins: A book about heaven, hell, and the fate of every person who ever lived.  Quite a title.

Jesus: The Marriage Protector

Jesus: The Marriage Protector

Since I’ve been studying Mark 10:1-12 this week, concerning Jesus’ teaching on marriage and divorce, I have really been impacted by the sacredness of marriage.  When asked about what permits a divorce, Jesus doesn’t go through a list of situations where divorce is allowable.  He says (I’m paraphrasing), “Divorce should never happen.  The Father’s plan [...]

Pastor Blair the Movie Critic

Pastor Blair the Movie Critic

One week ago I went with some men from my Men’s Fraternity small group to see the movie Courageous.  The movie incorporates all elements of a great movie: action, suspense, drama, tragedy, humor, and a clear plot.  There’s so much in this movie in terms of it’s message, that even a week later I am [...]

Go see a great movie this weekend!

Go see a great movie this weekend!

Have you heard about the movie Courageous?  It’s a movie that will impact the lives of men as it calls them to be a Christ-honoring man and father.  Learn more about the movie here http://www.courageousthemovie.com/.  I am very excited about this movie and strongly encourage you to go see it at the Findlay Carmike theater.  [...]
