The Christmas Gift
I’ve really enjoyed studying the Bible for our Christmas series entitled ’Gift Wrapped God.’ The mystery of God becoming flesh and all that means is really fascinating. Last Sunday we learned about receiving the gift of Jesus and therefore, the gifts of light and life. At our Christmas Eve service we’ll be studying John 1:14, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” I enjoy what John MacArthur wrote in his commentary on this verse: In the incarnation of Christ, “infinity became finite, the Creator entered His creation, Eternity entered time, the invisible became visible.”
Jesus Christ is the Mighty God and everlasting Father (Isaiah 9:6) and His origins are from of eternity (Micah 5:2). Even John the Baptist said “He who comes after me has a highter rank than I, for He existed before me” (John 1:15). The great mystery of Christmas is that the second person of the Trinity, eternally existing as God, took on human flesh and moved into our neighborhood. He is full of grace and truth (John 1:14) and can sympathize with our weaknesses (Hebrew 4:15) and come to the aid of those who are tempted (Hebrews 2:18). The purpose of Jesus’ life was His death as THE atonement for our sins, so we may be cleansed of our guilt before our Most Holy God. Gift wrapped God, indeed.
I hope you can join us for one of our Christmas Eve services (6:00 & 7:30pm) and our Christmas Day service (10:00am).
