Christmas Tree Repentance :)

Yesterday in my sermon I shared an illustration about artificial vs. real Christmas trees.  The illustration really wasn’t about the benefits of one over the other, but about how people try to achieve ‘real’ life apart from Jesus by ‘decorating’ their life with all sorts of pursuits.  The point of my illustration still stands: real life (eternal life) cannot be experienced apart from a relationship with Jesus Christ (John 1:4).

However, on a lighter note, I would like to repent of my decision to buy a real tree this year!  When we moved from Michigan we sold our artificial tree in a garage sale.  Since we moved into our new home in late October our lives have been fairly disorganized and we were in no hurry to go out and buy a new artificial tree.  We’ve decided to try and get a tree on sale after Christmas.  Maybe we’ll get a good deal.  Anyway, as Christmas was approaching I kept feeling like we needed a tree for our first Christmas in our new home.  So, last Saturday I went and bought a small one and we decorated it.  It looks great!  But…I’m reminded why people have artificial trees.  Real trees drop needles every where!  So, next year it will not be a real tree for us.  I repent of my decision and have come to my senses.  An artificial tree it will be…pre lit…self-decorating…self assembling…and self un-assembling!?????  Merry Christmas.
